This weekend I hopped a train heading south to Portland with room in my suitcase to spare. I couldn’t wait until Saturday morning, when I knew the famous Portland Farmers Market would be open in all its autumn glory. Sure, Seattle has plenty of farmers’ markets that delight and dazzle. But Portland’s sprawling Saturday market, laid out over the central grounds of Portland State University, is a gem.
Icebreaker launched its Baacode traceability program in 2008, a groundbreaking effort that allows consumers to trace their garments from the farm that grew the fiber to the factories in China that clean, spin, cut and sew its garments.
In November, LWA PR wrote and distributed a press release marking Baacode’s first year anniversary and 75,000 traces.
Mel Garten is one of the most decorated soldiers in American history and he has the medals to prove it.
While serving 30 years and in three wars, Col. Garten was awarded five Purple Hearts, four Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars, 20 ribbons, and many more honors. One of his most remarkable exploits was a rescue mission in World War II in which he helped to free 2,500 U.S. POWs in a Japanese labor camp.
