So which urban locales feature the best country flavor? In Travel + Leisure’s annual America’s Favorite Cities Survey, we asked readers to rank 30 U.S. cities on their markets. The consensus? Seattle, Portland, OR, andNew Orleans offer the best farmer fare, while Phoenix, Miami, and Las Vegas fared less well. (Of course, most visitors to Sin City are probably more interested in finding cherries and watermelons on their slot machines.)
LWA PR again this year helped launch Portland Farmers Market’s 2010 season, starting with the opening of its flagship market at Portland State University on March 20 and continuing with the opening of this beloved non-profit’s neighborhood markets, including the new NW 23rd Avenue Portland Farmers Market and soon the Portland Farmers Market at Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Portland Farmers Market at PSU will expand to include the block directly south of its existing location. The expansion will give the market’s more than 120 vendors and up to 16,000 shoppers more space to shop for farm-fresh produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, seafood and more.
As the city’s economic development efforts rise and fall, the Portland Farmers Market continues to grow. Portland Farmer’s Market has quietly grown into one of the city’s leading economic drivers. From its 1992 incarnation—13 stalls assembled on the edge of the not-yet-built Pearl District—the market has evolved into one of Portland’s most successful nonprofits, with 620,000 visitors annually and $6 million in sales in 2009 alone.
