Portland Farmers Market has opened two new markets this summer because of increased demand. According to numbers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the number of farmers markets in the U.S. has increased 170 percent over the last ten years.
Ann Forsthoefel, Portland Farmers Market’s executive director, announced Thursday that she will leave her job at the end of the year to move to Missoula, Mont., with her husband.
Tasting award-winning pies will be as easy as…well, pie, on Thursday, August 5, at the Buckman Portland Farmers Market, when the winners of the Pietopia 2010 contest will be presented, along with a general pie sampling extravaganza.
More and more Portlanders are planting a garden this year, large or small, new or well-established. But garden or no garden, anyone who enjoys putting together meals when produce is the most fresh and varied, will head to a local farmers market occasionally this summer for fruit and veggies and possibly other Oregon and Southwest Washington products to eat, drink and beautify their homes.
